Case Report: Engaging Grant Resources to Implement Small Business Advisor Program

WORC prepared a case report for the National Fund for Workforce Solutions highlighting a job quality leader - Central Iowa Works (CIW)

Central Iowa Works, a workforce intermediary housed at the United Way of Central Iowa, expanded its small business advising support for small to mid-sized businesses to 15 companies that employ more than 1,000 workers in retail, hospitality, warehousing, transportation, and logistics. Using the skills gained during a precursor grant, CIW partnered with a local Design + Build construction company Silent Rivers to help improve staff retention. Conversations and surveys between advisors and staff revealed unique opportunities to improve communication throughout the organization and upskill incumbent workers.
