HR Insights “First Wednesday” Webinar
On March 2, 2022, Ellen G. Frank-Miller, PhD, WORC’s Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, spoke as a featured panelist at the HR Insights “First Wednesday” Webinar, hosted by Prof. Peter Norlander and the Quinlan School of Business, Loyola University Chicago.
Ellen discussed why she is still celebrating the Great Resignation and the important role of job quality and labor relations. In her discussion with Bill Rooney and Dr. Norlander, Ellen remarked that, “Companies that turbo charge their efforts to innovate can seize the enormous opportunity to win at the employee retention game.”
This fruitful discussion centered around the following key points:
The "Great Resignation" is better called the "Great Churn at the Bottom" – the data don't support masses of professionals taking sabbaticals...BLS data show that what’s going on is that workers in hospitality and retail and other lower-level jobs are leaving for better working conditions in other similar positions, including pay.
The Great Churn at the Bottom is worth celebrating because it represents innovation in workforce practices – and innovation is an unqualified good!
Companies that get worthwhile jobs and quality jobs right are killing the competition – and when employees win, companies win too.
